1. This WE Energies field may be used only by AstroWings members and their guests (when accompanied by the member).
2. Each user flying aircraft must have current AMA membership with its accompanying liability insurance. Members shall have their current membership card and current AMA card in their possession while using this facility. Guests shall have a current AMA card in their possession.
3. At all times, the interests of WE Energies and neighboring residents must be respected.
4. Flying hours:
1. Monday thru Friday – 10:00 AM to Dusk
2. Friday or in Spring we may cut on any day and Flyers must yield to grass cutting.
3. Saturday, Sunday, and holidays- 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
1. (Silent flight, electric power or gliders, is permitted until dusk on all days)
4. Flying is not permitted past the berm directly across from the road when WE Energies or contractor personnel are working the ash site.
5. Parking shall be in the designated area only.
6. Pit areas shall be along the west edge of the N-S landing strip area.
7. Air space to be used is described on the accompanying map of the site. It is particularly important not to fly west of the perimeter berm nor close to any residence or farms. Flying fields are lost when neighbors are annoyed. FIELDMAP
8. Noise Control.
1. Club will be in compliance with the AMA recommended noise maximum of no more than 90dB at 9 feet distance. The best way to achieve this is to use large, properly designed mufflers.
2. ALL TWO-STROKE ENGINES SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH EXPANSION STYLE MUFFLERS.
3. All aircraft must have suitable mufflers, except:
1. Four-stroke engines less than 0.60cc.
2. Electric powered.
3. Gliders.
4. The following muffler types are unsuitable:
1. Flow-through mufflers.
5. In any event, regardless of the equipment used, members of the Field Committee or Board of Governors may prohibit the use of any engine-muffler-airframe combination which, in their judgement, is unacceptable from a noise standpoint.
9. Plastic propellers are not permitted on engines larger than 0.19 c.i.d. unless the propeller is fiber-reinforced.
10. All engine shafts shall be covered by a spinner or an AMA nut.
11. All radios must be gold stickered.
12. Odd number frequencies may be used.
13. Because of interference by Channel 4 TV, Channel 20 shall not be used at this field.
14. Novice fliers shall not fly unless under direct, personal supervision of an accredited instructor. Competence to fly alone, to graduate from the novice class, shall be in accordance with the Club’s proficiency test.
1. The proficiency test consists of the following maneuvers:
1. Takeoff from ground.
2. Straight flight out.
3. Procedure turn.
4. Two slow flybys, right and left.
5. Land within landing strip area.
2. Demonstration of proficiency to fly alone shall consist of performance of these maneuvers in a satisfactory manner during a single flight while being observed by two instructors.
3. Instructors are designated by the Club President.
15. Pit operations are confined to the area behind the demarcation line. The normal demarcation line is the rear of the frequency board. The special event demarcation line is 25 feet from the flight line set up for the event. Pit operations include:
1. Airplane maintenance and adjustment other than simple external control trim or needle valve adjustments.
2. Transmitters may be removed from impound and switched on in the pit area for necessary maintenance operations only if the frequency flag is owned.
3. Parking of airplanes.
4. Fueling.
5. Relaxing, eating, and conversation.
16. Flight line operations are conducted at the pilot stations and include:
1. Switching on transmitters.
2. Starting engines.
3. Engine tuning through adjustment of needle valve(s).
4. Start point for taxi out to runway. If the airplane will not taxi successfully, a helper may take it onto the runway and position it in the takeoff position provided that “Man on the field!” is announced to other fliers.
5. Flying airplane from pilot station marker and nowhere else.
17. The following operations are always prohibited:
1. High speed passes or dives directed toward the flight line.
2. Flying over the pits or the car parking area.
3. Flying to the west of the N-S runway, except for takeoffs and landing patterns when the E–W runway is in use.
4. Taxiing into or out of the pit area.
5. Solo flying by novices. An accredited instructor must be present until the novice graduates to solo status through passing the flight proficiency test.
18. The following operations should always be performed:
1. Announce intention to come in for a landing so that other fliers can hear the call.
2. Announce “Man on the field!” before going on to the active runway to retrieve an airplane. Do not proceed until it is clear that no one will land or takeoff during your presence on the runway. Get on and off fast and avoid long diagonal strolls down the runway.
3. Transmitters that have not been cleared for use, such clearance being indicated by the transmitter user raising the frequency flag, must be placed in the impound rack. This should be done immediately upon arriving at the field.
4. Turn on transmitter only after you are the sole possessor of the frequency flag.
19. All members shall comply with the AMA Safety Code.
20. The last member to leave the site is responsible to see that the gate is locked. Leaving the site unattended with the gate unlocked may cause the field agreement to be rescinded. If there are problems locking the gate, call the WE Energies Site Supervisor.
21. The Club shall insure that all members, present and future, are fully aware of these rules.
22. The Board of Governors may expel any member it finds in violation of these rules.Last updated: May 30th 2010
