Fees

There is a small initiation fee and annual dues are modest. All members are required to join the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) for insurance reasons, before flying a model aircraft.

Each member will be furnished with a membership card, a club roster, and a copy of safety rules, field rules, and routine flying etiquette.

Club meeting are held each month on the third Monday at a location announced in the newsletter. Currently, this is the Grafton Senior Center, 1665 7th Ave., Grafton, Wisconsin.

Every club needs a place to fly and the AstroWings are privileged in this respect, as we have an excellent field conveniently located between Grafton and Port Washington. It is the WE-Energies (WEPCO) Landfill Site, just off I43 Exit 93.

As was stated earlier, AstroWings does require all members to join the Academy of Model Aeronautics. In 1992 over 2500 clubs were under the AMA Chartered Club Plan with individual membership of more than 170,000 members!

The AMA is the official regulating record keeping, and contest ruling body. And, although official operations commenced at the 1936 Detroit Nationals, it’s heritage can be traced back to 1905. The AstroWings hold AMA Charter #1167, and most events are sanctioned with the AMA and organized by a certified Contest Director (CD).

Final Warning!

The hobby of building and operating radio control models is…fantastic!! The excitement of piloting your own aircraft is a satisfying experience and it is easy to become addicted. The challenges are significant and the accomplishments are most rewarding.

Club membership is an essential requirement for those involved in model aviation. The benefits of insurance coverage, instructions in developing flying skills, availability of a flying field are the most obvious. Come join us!
